Dear JOSEPH,

I hope that everyone had a prosperous Mother's Day business! If you could take a minute, email me and let me know what your top seller(s) were and I can share them in next week's newsletter.

Several of our newsletters contributors have special events planned for the JCK Show which are featured in place of their normal column. Please check these events out because there are some excellent learning opportunities!

I would like to also emphasis again that we are working hard to tailor GFeNEWS into a publication that contains useful information for our subscribers. If there is an area that you feel like we could cover that would be helpful in running your business please let me know and we will work on it.

Our goal is still to provide current news and information weekly to your desktop that is useful in the operation of your business, in addition to providing "quick link" resources that enable you to acquire information you need quickly.

As a former retailer I truly understand how busy people are running their businesses and yet it is critical that you stay current with industry news and continually seek means to improve the performance of your businesses. With that in mind we have designed the newsletter so that with the click of a button or two you can access the information that you wish to review weekly. Please note that the index at the top of the newsletter is hyperlinked to the contents of the newsletter, so you can click on any index title and it will take you to that part of the newsletter.

Through a lot of feed back we learned that most of our subscribers are using articles and columns for their sales meetings which is why we re-designed the newsletter so that you can print any articles that you wish to share with your associates.

We look forward to your suggestions and ideas!

Have a great week!

    Jeweler Profit - Tip # 5 - Part 1 of 2

Many of you are doing very well, thank you. But there's many jewelers right now crying the blues as business is off. That has more to do with advertising than anything else, but that's not today's topic.

There are two kinds of money in your store. The first kind of money is profits. Profits come from charging more than it cost you to run your business. (Okay, everyone say 'duh' in unison!). But the other kind of money is cash flow. Have you every looked at your profit & loss statement and said "If I've made all of that profit, just where the heck is it?" I can tell you, it's paying off debt you've accumulated. But now let's talk about cash flow.

Cash flow has no cost, its pure money. If I ask you told hold $5000 for me for a month, you have no cost, just pure out $5000 to hold OR do as you like. (Until I ask for it back). While I'm gone, you can pay your bills, take the spouse off to a romantic weekend and it doesn't affect your own checkbook. You can also go to Vegas, use my $5000, win $10,000 and come out ahead after paying me loan back. That's what I'm going to share with you now.

I want to share with you a way to improve your cash flow and make money at the same time. Most all of you buy your findings from the big findings house and a bunch of other smaller findings houses. You might just look at the checks paid to these people and say "Gee whiz, I WISH MY NAME was on all of those checks!" Yeh, wouldn't you like to just get paid what you spend in findings? Mounts up, doesn't it? Would you like to still GET the findings but not write any checks for them? Would that help your check book balance? Your cash flow? I bet it would.

    Here's how: (Continued next week)

Jewelers Mutual - Show Security Tips
Attending the JCK Show? Practice badge safety!

So, you're planning to attend the JCK Show. Bring along identification so you can pick up your show badge. Your badge identifies you as a member of the jewelry industry. That's great when you're on the show floor or at a show function, but it's like painting a bull's eye on your chest when you leave the safety of the show venue.

Remove your badge as soon as you have left the show floor. Put it in a secure place that's out of sight. When you return to the Sands Convention Center, wait until you are ready to enter the show floor to put it back on.

When you leave the show for the last time, destroy the badge. If you leave the badge in your room or toss it into a trash can, you could be giving someone else access to your identify.

    Laughter... The Best Medicine!

A sale like this could knock you on your *ss!

It was the day of the big sale. Rumors of the sale (and some advertising in the local paper) were the main reason for the long line that formed by 8:30, the store's opening time, in front of the store.

A small man pushed his way to the front of the line, only to be pushed back, amid loud and colurful curse. On the man's second attempt, he was punched square in the jaw, and knocked around a bit, and then thrown at the end of the line again.

As he got up, he said to the person at the end of the line, "That does it! If they hit me one more time, I won't open the store!"
