Issues with Paying Respondents to Take Part in Online Research
by Paul Christ, KnowThis.com - April 2007
There
are many websites that recruit web surfers to participate in online
research, such as answering surveys or participating in focus groups.
Many of these sites are run by legitimate market research firms that
use the Internet as a method for building research panels (a.k.a.,
consumer panels). Such panels consist of a large number of people
who have agreed to take part, often on a regular basis, in the research
conducted by the panel’s operator. In many cases the research
is sponsored by marketing organizations that have contracted with
research firms running the panels. Marketing organizations like panels
as a research tool because these have the potential to offer quick
access to many highly targeted respondents.

PRIOR
PHONE CALLS TO RETAILER BY GRAB AND RUN SUSPECT
San Francisco, CA; April 20, 2007
A suspect called a retail jewelry store several times, asking if the
store carried a certain brand of high end watches. During one call
he asked for a list of the watches that the store carried. This list
was not provided but the suspect was invited to come into the store
to see what the store had. He made an appointment and came in at 11:00
a.m. The suspect looked at several watches and chose one ladies and
one men’s watch of the same brand. He grabbed both watches and
ran out of the store. The suspect ran for about two blocks and jumped
into a car with two other suspects. Shortly after they drove away
the car crashed. All three suspects jumped out and ran. The driver
was injured and arrested after a chase, but the other two suspects
escaped. The suspect who ran with the watches was described as 25
years old, very well dressed, with a goatee. The suspect who was arrested
was reported to be an Armenian male, 22 years old. More

Determination
of Ring Sizes
Copyright © Brynmorgen Press 2001-
Ganoskin
A ring fits well when it is no longer felt on
the finger. If in the course of time the size of the finger
changes or if the ring is to be fitted for another wearer, a
sizing of the ring is necessary. The first step is to determine
the finger size, which is done with a ring sizer, a set of about
30 steel rings in graduated sizes, figure 13.1. If the customer
has a comfortable ring to use as a guide, its size is measured
on a graduated ring stick. More
