TWO
WOUNDED ROBBERS ARRESTED
Philadelphia , PA – February 14, 2007
At 7:10 p.m. three suspects armed with handguns and wearing masks
entered a retail jewelry store and robbed cash and a large amount
of jewelry. An employee out on meal break returned to the store while
the robbery was in progress. When the owner yelled out to the returning
employee, the robbers were distracted. The owner then pulled out his
own gun, and a gun battle erupted. The robbers fired, and at least
one bullet went through the front window of the store and out to the
street. In the gun battle, two of the robbers were shot, and the jeweler
was unharmed. About 20 minutes later the police were flagged down
by a woman who reported that two men who appeared to be shot were
in a car nearby. A gun and an item of the stolen jewelry were found
near the car. The two wounded suspects were taken to the hospital,
and were charged with robbery, assault and other crimes. More

it Art? Is it Craft?

The Art versus Craft issue is a complex question and one that
has bedeviled creators a great deal in the last fifty years
or so.
I
once heard a gallery owner say that the difference between an
art object and a craft object is $3000. The American Craft Council's
director Carmine Branagan says that the discussion is unimportant,
that the craft/art debate is one of craftspeople talking to
themselves, about issues that do not matter at all to the general
public - they do not care about this particular debate. She
holds that if we are educating the culture as makers then the
real issue is getting the work and what it means out and before
the public, especially through galleries, museums and publications,
